What Causes Dark Circles or Discoloration?

Not all under-eye darkness is the same. Common causes include:

  • Thin skin & visible blood vessels (bluish tint)
  • Pigmentation or sun damage (brown or gray undertones)
  • Volume loss or hollowing (shadowing effect)
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (especially in darker skin tones)
  • Genetics or allergies

Because there are multiple contributing factors, we take a customized, layered approach to treatment.

Our Treatment Options for the Under-Eye Area

We combine medical-grade skincare with targeted in-office treatments to safely and effectively treat your under-eye concerns.

Medical-Grade Eye Creams and Brighteners

Best for: Maintenance and prevention

Microneedling with PDRN (Rejuran or VAMP)

Best for: Crepey skin, dark pigmentation, post-inflammatory discoloration

  • PDRN (salmon DNA) deeply hydrates and regenerates tissue, helping to thicken thin skin, reduce pigment, and improve elasticity.
  • Gentle enough for the under-eye area when applied via microneedling with small stamp tips or fine needles.

* Recommended in a series of 3–5 for best results.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injections or Microneedling

Best for: Thin skin, bluish circles, crepiness

  • PRP uses your body’s own healing factors to stimulate collagen, thicken under-eye skin, and brighten tone over time.
  • Can be injected or microneedled, depending on your goals.

* Best in a series of 3; maintenance every 4–6 months.

VI Peel (Off-Label Under Eye Use)

Best for: Deeper pigmentation or sun damage near the under-eye (carefully applied)

  • Certain VI Peel formulations can be used cautiously in the under-eye area to lift pigment and stimulate turnover, especially in more pigmented skin types.
  • May help with stubborn melasma or sun-related discoloration under the eyes.

* Use only in the hands of trained professionals for safety.

Microneedling with AnteAGE MD Growth Factors

Best for: Redness, inflammation, and mild pigmentation

  • Lab-derived growth factors from human bone marrow stem cells support collagen synthesis and help reverse inflammation and dullness.
  • Safe for sensitive skin and ideal for those with early signs of aging or chronic puffiness.

* Recommended in a series of 3–5 for best results.

Dermal Fillers for Under-Eye Hollows

Best for: Hollowing beneath the eyes (tear troughs) can create a tired or sunken appearance.

  • Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are carefully injected to restore lost volume, smooth transitions between the lower eyelid and cheek, and improve light reflection in the area.
  • When done conservatively, results are natural and immediate.

Neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, Daxxify)

Best for: Dynamic lines and crow’s feet.

  • Neurotoxin can be placed strategically around the orbicularis oculi muscle to soften dynamic fine lines and create a smoother under-eye and crow’s feet area.
  • While it doesn’t directly address hollows or dark circles, it complements volume and skin texture treatments.

* Pro Tip: Combine Treatments for Better Results

Under-eye concerns are rarely due to one single factor. That’s why a customized treatment plan combining volume restoration, collagen stimulation, pigment correction, and medical-grade skincare often delivers the most natural, refreshed look.
